Homes for the Future

As Leyton residents will know, I’ve been banging on about housing ever since I was elected as a local councillor last year. I am therefore delighted the Government published a new Green Paper on Housing earlier this week setting out new vision on the future for Britain’s housing.

Alongside watching my new Casino Royale DVD (Daniel Craig = yum yum) and engaging in some military pampering 🙂 I’m going to try and have a good read of this extremely important document over the weekend.

Have a good weekend!

Celebrating Labour’s New Leaders

Gordon Brown makes his first speech as the Labour Party's new Leader

I got back from Manchester, my own university stomping ground, earlier today, after travelling up to a special conference to announce and celebrate the Labour Party’s new Leader and Deputy Leader.

Although Jon Cruddas, my preferred candidate, came third in the final result for Deputy Leader, like other Cruddas supporters, I am delighted with his result.

Jon Cruddas may not have won the Deputy Leadership post yesterday but he most certainly won the campaign Continue reading “Celebrating Labour’s New Leaders”

Cruddas for Deputy – the Final Push!

Telephone canvassing for Jon Cruddas

It’s now less than a week to go until the Labour Party will announce who its MPs, members and trade union affiliates have chosen to become our party’s next Deputy Leader.

Last night, I spent a couple of hours at the Unite (Amicus) HQ to continue telephone canvassing for Jon Cruddas.

It was incredible how many people still hadn’t voted.

There is definitely everything to play for in this contest and so I’ll try and make sure I get along to the phone banks at least one more time before Friday, to help get the Cruddas vote out.

If you haven’t voted yet, I’d urge you to cast your first preference vote for Jon Cruddas who is, put simply, the best candidate for the job.

Jon’s run a stonking campaign.

There’ll be a big celebration up in Manchester on Sunday whatever the result 🙂

Diane Abbott MP cuts her 20th year celebratory cake

Diane Abbott, Member of Parliament for Hackney North, celebrated her twentieth year in Parliament on Monday.

I was absolutely delighted to attend her reception, at the House of Commons, which was hosted by Gender Equality campaign organisation the Fawcett Society Continue reading “Celebrating Diane – Britain’s First Black Female MP!”
