I am proud to know Diane Abbott MP – the first Black woman to enter the House of Commons. She is an inspiration to me and many other Black women living in Britain. Dianne entered parliament in 1987 and represents the constituency of Hackney North.

Let’s hope the number of Black women MPs increases at a faster rate than the number of women MPs between 1918 and 1997! Or even 97 to 2006…
