Anita Roddick Rest in Peace

With Dame Anita Roddick

Really, really sad to hear the news that one of my absolute heroines, Dame Anita Roddick has died at the young age of 64.

Dame Anita Roddick was a truly amazing woman.

I was so excited to meet her earlier this year (see picture above) at an anti-Trident rally in Westminster. She had so much energy and inspired so many women. The world will be a less just and bright place without her.

My deepest condolences to Dame Roddick’s family.

Sofia’s First Communion

Celebrating my beautiful God Daughter's First Communion

I’ve just returned home from a lovely weekend in Germany, celebrating my beautiful God Daughter Sofia’s (pictured above, and with me in the ‘about me’ section of this website’s) first communion.

It was a really lovely ceremony and I felt quite emotional as I thought about the day I made my own first communion, now twenty years ago.

Anyway, I promised Sofia I would post this photo of us, taken after the church service, to the website.

Gut gemacht, meine Liebe! Ich bin total stolz auf dich!

Viele Gruesse und viel Liebe.

Deine Paten Tante Miranda

Neglect Not the Gift that is In Thee

Walthamstow Gorls Teacher Sue Milligan & former students

Walthamstow School for Girls, which I attended as a student between 1989 and 1994, held its 117th annual presentation and achievement awards on Wednesday.

I felt deeply honoured to have been invited to present the awards and give the key note address as the ceremony’s Guest of Honour. Continue reading “Neglect Not the Gift that is In Thee”

Thank You for a Brilliant Year

With James Fitpatrick, the best agent in the world

2006 has been a really significant year for me and for Waltham Forest Labour. In May, you elected me your local councillor for Leyton – a position not held by Labour for over 12 years. I still can’t quite believe that I’ve been elected for almost eight months now, representing the ward I was born in, that I love and that I still live in.

It is a great honour to serve Leyton residents in the town hall – but more importantly, in the ward. I am really looking forward to continuing to work as your Leyton ward councillor in 2007, for the next three and a bit years, and beyond Continue reading “Thank You for a Brilliant Year”

Chilling with Socialism and Sofia

God Daughter Sofia strikes a pose

I did something I haven’t done for a year last week – I left Leyton! After the demanding local election campaign and enjoyable, but challenging, council work I’ve thrown myself into, I finally took a short break from the leaflets and the town hall, to spend a relaxing week in Italy with my God daughter Sofia (the little girl pictured above and with me in the “About Me” section of this site) and her mum, Sabine, dad, Ferdinand and sister, Julia Continue reading “Chilling with Socialism and Sofia”
