I did something I haven’t done for a year last week – I left Leyton! After the demanding local election campaign and enjoyable, but challenging, council work I’ve thrown myself into, I finally took a short break from the leaflets and the town hall, to spend a relaxing week in Italy with my God daughter Sofia (the little girl pictured above and with me in the “About Me” section of this site) and her mum, Sabine, dad, Ferdinand and sister, Julia.
One of the highlights of my trip was our visit to the ancient town of Pompei to see the ruins and how the Romans lived. I have always loved history so really enjoyed it.
It was also great to get some time to read. I thoroughly recommend the “Ragged Trousered Philanthropists” by Robert Tressell, which was given to me as an election victory present by a colleague in the local Labour party. Buy it and have a read. I’m hoping it may inspire some of you out there to join Labour 🙂
