Willow Brook School’s Grand Opening!

Willow Brook's Celebratory Cake

Regular visitors to this website will remember that back in June I posted a story about ‘Church Mead’ school being relaunched as ‘Willow Brook’ school (click here to reread that story).

Ever since I posted that story, pupils old and new have been posting their comments about their experiences of Church Mead and their hopes for Willow Brook.

It’s been this website’s most popular story so far!!!

On Friday, local MP Harry Cohen and I attended the official launch of Willow Brook school, which was absolutely lovely.

Below, are some pics of the event.

Enjoy! 🙂 Continue reading “Willow Brook School’s Grand Opening!”

Following the tragic and shocking murder of local teenager Paul Erhahon, local church and community leaders have organised a Peace and Prayer walk, in order for local people to come together in solidarity against the violence currently plaguing London’s streets.

The walk will take place next Monday the 16th of April, at 7.00pm, Cann Hall

Celebrating International Women’s Month

GLA Member Jennette Arnold, Cllrs and Elders celebrate international women's month

George Mitchell school goes Online

Local people interested in keeping up to speed with the multitude of fantastic educational and community projects happening at George Mitchell school (where I am a governor), should visit the school’s superb website.

In recent weeks, the school’s Challenge 2012 project has been going from strength to strength (the school is just about to hand over money it’s raised for a school in El Salvador) and pupils running George Mitchell’s School Bank have also received a visit from Nick Ross, the presenter of BBC One’s ‘Crime Watch’ programme. Planting a Tree for Freedom

Local politicians and activists gather to watch Mrs Zena Edmund-Charles plant her tree

Thank you to the fantastic Leyton and Leytonstone Historical Society (LLHS) for organising a really lovely service, earlier this week, to plant a tree commemorating the two hundredth anniversary of the abolition of Britain’s slave trade.

Local MP Harry Cohen (pictured above centre) joined Cllr Milton Martin (pictured directly left of me) and I, alongside local members of the society to take part in the occasion. Continue reading “Planting a Tree for Freedom”
