Thank You

Thanks again to everyone who stood by me in 2008 and continued to support the fight to reclaim my innocence and reclaim respect for the voters of Leyton ward.

Your friendship has meant a lot to me and has given me the strength to keep going.

My family motto has always been “deferred gratification” – nothing we’ve achieved has ever been without hard work, a fight, or a struggle – so we’re ready and (patiently) waiting for what we know awaits us in 2009 and I feel humbled and grateful that you’ve stayed with us.

Thanks again and I wish you, your family and friends a peaceful and successful 2009.

Marsh Lane Fields Needs Your Vote!!!!!

Long time readers of this blog will remember that, back in May 2006, just after I was elected to Waltham Forest council, I wrote a little post about a clean up and litter picking session I was involved in with the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV), and one of my Labour councillor colleagues, at the Marsh Lane fields in nearby Lea Bridge ward (the pic above is from that session – you can re-read that post HERE).

Mark Blaxall (pictured above next to me on the left) who worked for BTCV at the time, but has since moved back to Australia, emailed me this morning to ask if any of this blog’s readers were aware of a new set of Greater London Authority (GLA) grants worth £400,000, being made available to clean up local parks.

The GLA is asking residents all over London to vote for which park they would like to see get some help.

As a loyal, life long and permanent resident of Leyton, I obviously want our potentially very beautiful Marsh Lane fields to win, so I therefore hope that everyone reading this post will visit the voting website and vote for Marsh Lane fields!!!!!

If Mark can take the time to be voting for Marsh Lane fields all the way from Australia, I hope residents currently living in Leyton will do their patriotic duty and do the same!!!!

You can vote for Marsh Lane by clicking HERE.

Happy voting and please spread the word about Marsh Lane!!!! 🙂

All Change at ‘E10’

About a year and a half ago, I wrote a feature about a brilliant local directory entitled ‘E10’, which helped promote business and community life in the Leyton area.

You can re-read that post HERE.

This post is just a quick note to let people know that E10 now has a new Editor, Yasmin Allen, and a new name, ‘Leyton Life’.

However, despite all the changes, Yasmin’s as keen as ever to receive your adverts, news, views and feedback.

You can contact Yasmin and read the new-look directory by visiting: www.leytonlife.co.uk

All best wishes for the future to former editor Clare McCaughren and her family and best of luck Yasmin!

SUPPORT THE CAMPAIGN!

THURSDAY 7TH AUGUST 2008 PM UPDATE:

The local Guardian is reporting that an “SOS” meeting with the stadium’s new owners and “Save the Stow” campaigners will soon go ahead.

Former England Footie International – and local boy – Teddy Sheringham, has joined the campaign and will lead a march around the track in protest at the Stow’s threatened closure.

This is excellent news!

Read the local Guardian’s article HERE.

FRIDAY AUGUST 15TH 2008 UDPATE: Does anyone know if there are any ‘Save Our Stow’ T-Shirts? Could you let me know if you do. Ta!

Job Opportunity with Masquerade 2000!

Some young revellers

Masquerade 2000, a top class costume and steel band that participates in the annual Notting Hill carnival, is looking for a person to help them stitch costumes for this year’s carnival.

Masquerade 2000 is a charity but they can pay the right person £7 an hour for a 30 hour week. The group is based in Leyton.

I think this year’s Notting Hill carnival is going to be superb and Masquerade 2000 will – yet again – be right at the heart of the action!

If you know how to sew, love Notting Hill carnival and steel pan music, please contact me so I can put you in touch with Masquerade 2000!
