Waltham Forest Mela 2007

With Cllr Afzal Akram, Jennette Arnold AM and Neil Gerrard MP

I had an absolutely smashing day out at the Waltham Forest Mela 2007 on Sunday.

The sun were shining, the bhangra was pumping and the yummy yummy food was hot, hot, hot!

Many thanks and a huge well done to the excellent organising committee, of which my good colleague Cllr Asim Mahmood is a key member.

I know that Cllr Afzal Akram, Waltham Forest Council’s Labour Cabinet Member for Community Safety; Jennette Arnold, Waltham Forest’s Labour Member of the London Assembly; and the excellent Neil Gerrard MP, Labour’s Member of Parliament for Walthamstow (all pictured with me above, left – right), all had a very nice time too 🙂

Display your Artistic Talent with Friends Of The Earth!

Helen Porter, from Waltham Forest Friends Of The Earth, has sent me details of the Art Exhibition FoE is hosting on Sunday 22nd July 2007, at the Lloyd Park Theatre, Forest Road, Walthamstow, E17.

The exhibition will be held on the same day as the borough’s annual ‘Green Fayre’ and Helen is inviting submissions from local artists, community groups and individuals, who’d like to take up this great opportunity to display their work.

Kreative Culture Klub does Leyton ward Proud!

I watched today’s Daily Politics Show (on BBC 2) earlier and am feeling really, really emotional.

Back in March, the producers contacted me to talk about a feature they were looking to do on anti-social behaviour.

To cut a long story short, I told them that we had this fantastic youth club being run in Leyton ward, with no premises and little funding, and that I thought it would be good for the Daily Politics to do a piece on them, to show some of the positive work the group is doing.

Fast forward a couple of months and we get today’s truly excellent show featuring Leyton ward’s Kreative Culture Klub (KCK)!

The group was the star of today’s programme and I am so so proud of them all!

I really hope that, as a result of seeing KCK’s superb apperance today, someone will now help the group secure the LONG TERM funding it desperately needs.

Well done again all!!!

You did Leyton ward proud today and I feel so proud to be your local councillor!! 🙂

To contact KCK, email Yvonne Bailey on: kck_enq@hotmail.com
