Sofia’s First Communion

Celebrating my beautiful God Daughter's First Communion

I’ve just returned home from a lovely weekend in Germany, celebrating my beautiful God Daughter Sofia’s (pictured above, and with me in the ‘about me’ section of this website’s) first communion.

It was a really lovely ceremony and I felt quite emotional as I thought about the day I made my own first communion, now twenty years ago.

Anyway, I promised Sofia I would post this photo of us, taken after the church service, to the website.

Gut gemacht, meine Liebe! Ich bin total stolz auf dich!

Viele Gruesse und viel Liebe.

Labour Party Conference 2006 – A Week in Pictures

Manchester welcomes the Labour Party Conference 2006

I have just returned from a fabulous week in Manchester, at this year’s Labour Party Conference. Despite dire media warnings of splits, plotting and in-fighting, mine and most other attendees experience of this year’s conference was nothing but positive.

It was great to catch up with old friends and make new ones, to debate policy and fresh ideas, and to listen to fantastic speeches by world statesmen such as Bill Clinton.

I am really pleased that I was there to be a part of it all.

Below is a summary of what I got up to… Continue reading “Labour Party Conference 2006 – A Week in Pictures”

Supporting Migrant Workers at TUC Congress 2006

At Congress 2006 with TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber

With Brendan Barber, Head of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), earlier this week, at this year’s annual TUC Conference (“Congress”) in Brighton.

I love going to Congress. It always reminds me why I believe so strongly in the unions’ core values of solidarity, equality, community and social justice Continue reading “Supporting Migrant Workers at TUC Congress 2006”

Chilling with Socialism and Sofia

God Daughter Sofia strikes a pose

I did something I haven’t done for a year last week – I left Leyton! After the demanding local election campaign and enjoyable, but challenging, council work I’ve thrown myself into, I finally took a short break from the leaflets and the town hall, to spend a relaxing week in Italy with my God daughter Sofia (the little girl pictured above and with me in the “About Me” section of this site) and her mum, Sabine, dad, Ferdinand and sister, Julia Continue reading “Chilling with Socialism and Sofia”

The Best MP’s office in the Whole Wide World

With Harry Cohen MP's fantastic staff, Elijah and Zoe

Ok, ok, I know I said a while back that I’d have to stop celebrating winning my election, but taking Elijah Mariam and Zoe Williams (both pictured above), who work in the Westminster office of my local Member of Parliament, out to lunch on Tuesday, wasn’t strictly celebrating…

Throughout my campaign, Elijah and Zoe were total rocks. They helped me – and continue to help me – with my ward casework and arranged many, many appointments for Leyton ward residents with Harry. They sent me information I could use in my campaign and always let me know about parliamentary initiatives I could get involved with Continue reading “The Best MP’s office in the Whole Wide World”
